Top Gear - Scraping The Barrel?
Has anyone been watching this last series of Top Gear? I've watched the last couple and they have been cringe worthy.
I used to look forward to watching it, but each episode seems to have the exact same format....some kind of pointless chase scenario, like the bullet train vs fast car, only it's not a race, and we know the outcome is never as "genuinely close" as they say.
Thing is though, this would be OK if they added something fresh to it, but it's the same old shite each week.
/End of rant

I'm with you on that. All you appear to get now is super car knob waving contests and the old banger races you describe. I remember when you used to get useful information about everyday cars that the great unwashed masses found useful.
Such are the wonders of modern day television. I've not looked back since I got rid of my last TV set in 1995. There are sets still in the house but they all belong to my daughter, and I only watch the one in the kitchen when making meals and tea/coffee.

I love the program and find it very entertaining.

Like you Clunk, I used to love Top Gear, but I haven't even bothered with this series as the last one was so bad. When the two new chaps first appeared on the show it was still okay, they still even did road tests , but nowadays it seems to have degenerated into Clarkson making up for lost time now he actually has some 'mates'..... unfortunately that means we are now subjected to the most puerile and embarrassing parts of 'bloke culture'.......

I think the reason that this annoys me so much is that it must take up the budget of three or four other good programs, what with super wages, track upkeep etc.
The same thing goes for Jonathon Ross, his show is ok, nothing spectacular, but he isn't worth the silly money they pay him and as for Graham Norton, well they could replace him easily with someone new and keen, for a 100th of the price and end up with several whole new shows for the same price.
It's no wonder the BBC is in a world of shit.

And if you notice, all this has happened since they appointed the Channel 4 Guy as Director General of the BBC..... yes, that's the same bloke who brought Big Brother to Channel 4......

They should just get rid of Hammond and May and get back to motoring rather than messing around..... Hammond is annoying and May isn't really suitable for TV imo, he just seems uncomfortable with it, and can't deliver his 'not-scripted-in-any-way' lines in a convincing manner.
Isn't this why all the Fifth Gear people left Top Gear, because they wanted as much money as Clarkson?

They should just pull the plug on all of them, get a new team in, new presenters and a new set of ideas and redo the whole thing.
Only don't do it like 5th gear - that isn't great either
If they did pull the plug, what would any of them do? Soon as there's no top gear fame, the newspaper columns, DVDs and spin off shows will all dry up and they'll be back to their reasonably priced car.

They won't pull the plug on any of them because the three personality's together (sum being greater than the parts) are considered a very popular winning combination. It's people like my non-motoring Mother who give the show above average ratings. There'd be war if that combination was split up.
