Default hi everyone

Hi just thought id say hi. 20 year old chris here, been living in my rented house since april this year (2bed), had a daughter born on the 23rd november 2007 so she's 5 weeks tomorrow. Its absolutely surreal still. Love my computers. Always been a fan of air cooling but finally delved into water. Bought a used watercooling system, (lian li g70 black, mcw60 gpu block, apogee gtx cpu block, liang ddc1 plus t pump, dangerden reservoir and fillport, 120.3 rad and 120.1 rad all mounted) thought i was clever by replacing the shitty silver screws it came with going through the top grill with longer black ones, and somehow i think i punctured the rad (please someone explain to me because i really aint got a clue how they work so dont understand how i punctured it).

Anyway didnt leak test just set it all up... and it was pissing out from the rad. Luckily enough all parts barr one were saved. Because i used fluidxp coolant, (non conductive). The graphics card was just full of pixels on screen, so that was a no-go. But i think what fried the card was the shite shinetsu compound i used. Bloody ell ive never used such terrible paste. It really is like toothpaste i assumed i put enough on it. Obviously not.

Would love to here from everyone.

Welcome to the forums Chris

Congrats on the sprog

Yes, unfortinately your rad is now probably knackered. The thermochill rads come with a bag of screws, and these are still too long if you dont use the neoprene gasket, so it's always best to be careful.

I believe that over-clock.co.uk will do a repair on the rad for about a tenner, but youll have to pay the postage both ways, which wont be cheap because of the weight. Might be worth emailing them to check, but if you have punctured it with 12 screws, the chances are that it is knackered anyway.

You can always try soldering it yourself and then leaktesting

Let the graphics card dry out in a warm place for a while, it might fix itself.

Hi & welcome Congratulations on your baby.
If you apply isoptropyl alcohol (get it from chemists) it dries of any moisture, by evaporation. It's what you use to clean off old thermal paste.

you might be able to save the gfx card as death says. Check your oven as well, some have a low setting of maybe 50~60C this is low enough to cause no damage but will help dry out any water. keep checking every 10 minutes or so...... or until done

luck

Welcome to the forums mate, congrats on the baby.... my sister's has just turned one, so I've just experienced the 'fun' you're in for

Aye, don't like that Shin Etsu gunk, my friend loves it, he even did a thermal paste review on another forum and swears it always comes out on top, but it's AS5 all the way for me

Good luck with getting the rad sorted
