Default Hi all from Moe

Hello,

Been sifting through a small handful Overclocking forums of late and after reading a DFI review by Clunk here, ended up having me actually buy the product I'm now happy to own brings me out of my closet and into an unfamiluar world of tweaking.

Yes, I'm very new to this scene so in hindsight, I'm what you would call a nub. Yes a new learning curve for me but a quick learner....sometimes too quick that I overlook something and balls it up...

Haven't fried anything yet as I'm just plain scared. New PC, I think I've done my homework on a full rebuild and now hoping I can make it do what I payed good dollars for it to do without killing it on a trash heap.

Referred here by a good Friend that frequents a few overclocking forums, I think this one too. Unfortunately his nick isn't listed here so maybe he's using an alias. His name is "Adya" I think??

Anyway...enough of my ramblings and look forward to conversing with you all.

Cheers

Moe

Hi there!
Everybody is scared at first, in the end we are all taking at least a small, calculated risk overclocking our systems.
Do as much reading as you can, guides and forums, and take your time to be confident with the terms used and in the roles each and very setting plays.
There is no hurry to get any uberclock, and i bet you system is screaming fast at stock.
BTW do you have any atermarket coolers in your systems?
If you plan on overclocking your CPU, motherboard and RAM you should get a CPU cooler, maybe a fan on the NB cooler and one over the memory sticks.

Welcome to the forums Nuclearmadmoe. It's a very friendly, helpful place here. I'm also fairly new to PC modding, and have no idea about overclocking, but it's fun trying

Thanks for the replies and being in the true spirit guys.

Yes, I'll read through the stickies, etc... and get brushed up on some basics. Read a few already....crash course you could say. Obviously, everyones system is different and so too are the expectations achieved from them but I'll do my best to use what's already posted without troubling you all with a history lesson...

It feels faster but doesn't feel like it's screaming away. I think I botched something in Vista services causing a slow down. Might revert them back to default. Pays to leave well enough alone eh.

Currently all stock cooling with a few extra 120mm case fans to boot, NB has no fan on it atm, nor does CPU (only stock fan). Will stick with air for the time being but will probably need at least a decent CPU cooler....Geeez, they are big....and a NB one for mild overclocking. Not sure if I can go that far on air though. Water may be the answer in the future.

ATM, I'm just after a mild overclock on CPU, RAM and NB. I've read somewhere that any more than 3.2ghz on a CPU isn't going to be noticed in a gaming sense, so probably will be my first aim. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Of course I'll want some bragging rights, so will have a go at something more creative as time passes. Might have a go on my older P4 rig until she fries for practice....
