Default E6600 at 3.2GHz on air

When I get my warranty return 800MHz ddr2 I'm going to up my overclock from 3 to 3.2. Would it be easier/better to go with a fsb of 400 and reduce the cpu multiplier from 9 to 8 or leave it at 9 and use a 355 fsb?

Not an awful lot in it really. I tend to go for the higher multi for 24/7 use.

Using the lower multi can net you a bit of extra bandwidth if your memory can cope, but it usually comes at the expense of higher volts/more power used/more heat etc

Have you ever tested the upper limits of your chip Kinnsy? If so, how far did you get?

Not yet, erred on the side of caution atm as I'm still using the stock intel cooler. Got lots of new bits, two new motherboards, cooler, psu, hdd and memory but I've had so many faulty bits that I've not been able to do my rebuild. As soon as I get my replacement ram back from Corsair I will be seeing what I can get away with.

Humm, it's strange what you say Clunk, i have my E6750 at 3.2 GHz (400x8) for daily and it is on 24/7, it's been on for a couple of months at 450x7, and i'm using just 1.36 vCore, everything else at stock.
Maybe his E6600 is not G0 (did a G0 E6600 ever come out?), but i don't think it wil be a problem with a half decent cooler, my cpu is hardly going past 50 C.

It's not that strange

More often than not, the memory will require extra voltage, the NB will and possibly VTT depending on CPU and board.

It was the memory that I was more concerned about with the extra voltage as the extra bandwidth makes virtually no difference for most things.

Won't running 400 FSB will give him 800 MHz DDR with the 1:1 divider, while going 355x9 will leave him with no choice but to either run his memory at a low clock of 710 or a overclocked 852?
