Default help with overclocking Q9550 plz

hi you guys I should get my new gigabyte X48 DSQ and my Q9550 on monday. I am trying to learn as much as I can about overclocking so that when I do get them I know more or less what I am doing. I just have a couple questions about volts. I know what most of them do and what part of the computer they are for except for pll vtt what is the pll vtt. also what volts do I need to raise once I see that my computer dosen't wanna post or my computer is not stable. also by how much do I raise each one and when do need to stop raising them so I don't fry my board thanks for the info

I there is the

cpu vtt
pll vtt
memory vtt
fsb vtt
nb vtt
sb vtt

plz let me know if i missed any and which ones I need to raise and by how much and what volts clocks should I not exceed?

Welcome to the forums

Please enter your system specs into your profile (see my sig for how to do it.)

Grab the BIOS template for your motherboard from the sticky in the Intel overclocking section and list all your BIOS settings and someone will be along to help you out asap.

I should get my new Q9550 tomarrow and was wondering where can I find out what the stock vtt/fsb voltage are and also what the stock cpu voltage for the Q9550 is. I have been trying to search though google but could not it. the reason I ask is so when I do start up my new build I can set them at stock level and not have it set to auto in the bios. thanks

p.s. I hope someone will be willing to help me out tomarrow if I get stuck while trying to overclock it

The stock voltage (VID) is different for each CPU.

To find out what the VID is, load up something like Coretemp and it will tell you

Where did you get the board from?

ok another question I was seeing that supershanks did a review on the Gigabyte GA X48T DQ6 which is almost the same as my new motherboard the Gigabyte GA X48 DQ6 after looking though the review i see that not all the voltages are listed under the pc health section so how do I know at what voltage my nb ,sb, vtt, and so on are at in my bios ? would I have to load windows and look at them and then go back and change them in the bios ? also from what I understood that you can raise them in increments its not like my old asus motherboard where you pick the actual voltage you want. I think its meesed up that the motherboard bios doesn't let you see what all the voltage are at and on top of that that I have to rise them in increment instead up just displaying the voltage you want to choose meaning I would have to load windows look at them then restart the computer get in the bios and change them plz correct me if I am worng. so if I have to load windows to see my voltages will windows display the correct voltages and what program should I use to check the voltages? sorry for all the noob question just trying to understand how to do everything correctly
