Default My Rig(OC Q's)

So this is it, my soon to be babe
- Antec P182 Performance One
- Quad Q6600 B3
- 2 x Asus EN8800GT 512
- Corsair DDR3 2GB PC-10600/1333
- XFX nForce 790i Ultra Motherboard
- Western Digital 320Gb 7200RPM 16Mb SATA 2
- Antec TruePower Trio 650W ATX Power Supply
- Thermaltake Golden Orb II Ultra Silent Cooler
- X-FI Xtreme Gamer

So ive ordered these parts, and a few others not worth mentioning, here are some questions for you guys haha.
Is this 650W PSU more than enough to run an SLI system?

When Oc'ing i am trying to reach 3.0Ghz(or very close)
without having to change ram timings and voltages at the minumum!
I've read a few tutorials, some parts make sense, others im not so sure of so i'll lay out what i think i need to do to OC my pc, and tell what you guys think.
- 333 FSB x 9 = 3.0Ghz (To reach the 333 FSB i slowly raise this in increments of 5-10-15 etc, then load the pc to check for stability and redo until i reached the 333Mhz FSB mark).
- RAM frequency = FSB*RAMmultiplier - So 333 x 4?= 1332 (Im not sure if i can do that, can i leave the ram at stock until my cpu FSB reaches 333Mhz?
I do know there is the 1:1 which for me would be
- Overall = CPU 333Mhz*9 = 3000Mhz RAM 333*2 = 667 Mhz (This is Ratio 1:1)
But that would be underclocked and the ram would'nt be as fast? So im not sure, if i cna leave the ram at stock and it will be ok, or do i underclock it, then set the multiplier so it is 333 x 4 Mhz? Very puzzled with the ram

So theres a few gaps in there im really unsure of haha

- Voltages should hopefully only need to be changed with Vcore? For the CPU..That is if they need to be changed, which im hoping they wont! But if they do, how should i go about this, and how will i know if it is necessary to up the volts? (also by how many volts is it safe to increase by if need be).

I think that might be it for my overclock as im only a noobie at it, if there is more that i need to do which is really necessary, please tell!

Thanks guys, look forward to the replies! (hope my post isnt too messy)

I don't think anyone here has a 790 board, so I'm just going to be guessing

Assuming that your board works properly, you should be able to have your 3Ghz overclock and run your RAM and pretty much any speed it is capable of if you use "unlinked".

I think the best thing to do is wait till your stuff arrives, make sure it is stable at stock, and then post all your BIOS settings and we can try and help you out

Ok, will do
Should be about a week until it arrives!
What did you mean by "unlinked"?

On the Nvidia boards, you can run the CPU and RAM at different speeds, whereas on Intel chipsets, you are limited to a few different straps 200/266/333/400 etc, on Nvidia, you have much more choice as to what speed you run the CPU and RAM at.

You'll see when you look at the BIOS.

Ah k, that is interesting.
I'd prefer to leave my memory at stock levels while OC'ing the cpu, unless there is some large benefit to OC'ing the ram also?
I think im wrong but the idea came to my head, you can't overclock a set of ram, just like you overclock a CPU? Because the ram has limits such as certain speeds?..i know i deserve a haha *noob*

Do you think my PSU will cover my watt requirments?
I did two power tests, one from asus the other from another site.
First watt score was about 560w
Second was 800+ which really scared me...

I'm not too familiar with that PSU, but assuming it works properly, it has enough power for your system.

Most PSU calculators will overestimate and also they will only take into account everything running full speed at the same time, which never really happens.

If it's going to niggle you, grab something bigger - peace of mind and overkill go hand in hand
