Default Newb seeking info! Q6600 OC

Okay so I read through many guides and now I'm almost ready to OC my Q6600. I paired this up with a P5K-E ATX mobo, with a G.Skill 4GB PC2-8000, DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel Ram.

Now here's my question, since the ratio is kind of funny because my ram is PC2-1000, my friend says it won't be efficient in OCing my Q6600. I just want it to get to 3.0ghz

So I know I have to set my FSB to 333 but what should I do with the ram? Leave it be? Need help =/

Welcome to the forums

Have a read of the P5K overclocking guide in my sig, specifically the RAM overclocking part and it should all become clear

Sorry but I still don't get it >> Since my ram is PC2-1000 it doesn't fall under 667mhz, 800 mhz or 1066 mhz >> so I don't get it

Also in your guide you tighten the timings have you OC your CPU, is that necessary? I just plan on OCing my Q6600 and leaving my Ram as it is

Read the P5K RAM overclocking guide first.

You don't have to tighten the timings, it's all optional.

The thing you need to get out of your head is running the RAM exactly at it's rated speed.

The reason I told you to read the guide is to help you get your head round what you are actually doing when you change the settings, and then that will help you understand how to set you memory as high as possible.

If I were to just set my FSB to 333*9 what should I set the mhz of the ram to? Should I make it slower to 667mhz? After this step is done, I'm basically done right? I just need to check for stability?

Have you looked at the dividers that are available when your CPU is set to 333?
