Default Help Me Overclock IN9 680I + Q6600 B3

i'm using IN9 32X-MAX by abit nforce 680i sli, i wanna overclock my core2quad 6600 2.4 ghz. what the max for my proc can up the clock with stepping 7. when i try to set with 320 with fsb 1280. the ddr ram is auto cannot change to manual n make it 800 mhz. now my ddr2 following the overclocking of my cpu that up to 960 mhz!!! its is okay? did u have any reference overclocking for my abit motherboard with my proc? i just want to overclock that becouse i'm using sli, is it true that the power of sli will work if ur proc are minimum using 3.0ghz? so u can see the different a lot with or without OC.ThX

Welcome to the forums

This guide was written for the 965 chipset originally, so the method/terminology are quite different.

The settings in the guide won't work too well for 680i unfortunately.

It's been a while since I used a 680i board, but if you list your system specs in your profile extra options, I will try and help

SLI should work at pretty much any speed.

Talking my spec

PROC : C2Q6600 2.4GHZ (WITH MAXorb COOLER from THERMALTAKE)
MAINBOARD : ABIT IN9 32X-MAX (NVIDIA NFORCE 680i SLI)
DDR2 RAM : MUSHKIN 4 x 1GB 800mhz DIMM DDR2-6400
HDD : 320 GB WITH WINDOWS XP SP2
250 GB WITH VISTA
VGA : ZOTAC 8800GT AMP EDITION in SLI MODE
(WITH DUOorb COOLER FROM THERMALTAKE)
PSU : MUSHKIN 650W
CASE : SHARK BY THERMALTAKE WITH 3 COOLER INSIDE
FROM FRONT, SIDE, REAR)

WHAT DO U THINK WITH MY SPEC? IS IT GOOD ENOUGH? hope so hehe

i'm already trying with ur step by step overclocking. the first thing my memory timing are 5-7-7-22 n cannot up to 2.9ghz n of cource cannot go up to 3.0ghz. but after change like ur memory timing at 5-5-5-15 i can go up to 3.0ghz. now still trying the go-sp2004. or maybe u have more good setting for my spec? that can increase about 3.2 or 3.4? is my cpu cooler are good enough to handle if i clocked it to 3.4? wish i can get step by step configuration from u..thx

If you go to "user CP"->"extra options" you can enter all your system specs there

As your RAM is 800Mhz, you would probably be better off setting your RAM to "unlinked" and keeping it around 800Mhz. Turn of the EPP settings.

You also need to enter your RAM voltages and timings manually.

I havent used this particular board, so if you can find a BIOS template and list all your settings, that would help me to help you

Talking bios, cpu-z n all things

all my bios setting.. for my cpu-z about the proc he said just 2004 x 6 multiplier it is error cpu-z, sometimes change to x9 cometimes down again to x6, but when i looked at in my computer properties it said 3.00Ghz. n is it enough to get some best setting for my pc? that can get for 3.4ghz? with good setting for that.

You need to disable speedstep/eist if you want to get rid of the 6x multi thing

What are we going for 3.3Ghz?

QDR 1464
Multiplier factor x9
memory 800
fsb:memory ratio unlinked

voltages.

cpu voltage: 1.37v (you can raise/lower this later if needed)
ddr2 voltage: set this to whatever your RAM is rated at (look on the label on the sticks)
DDR2 ref 0%
NB ref 0%
CPU VTT 1.30-1.35
NB 1.4-1.5
SB 1.5
Hypertransport voltage 1.25

In the memory timings, set the trfc to 42.

These settings are from my old p5n32-e sli, so it's really a shot in the dark, and I haven't used a 680 board for about a year

Default asking

with my cpu not the go stepping is it possible got till 3.5 / 3.6 ghz with Maxorb cooling solution? is my cpu cooler can handle the temp if we go to 3,5 or 3,6? or i have to change it? i'm have some planning to buy cooler from thermalright fx-14 if my cooler cannot handle the temp i'll buy, but if it can handle it i didnt think to spend my money just for different 5%-10% celcius hehehe but before we go for that let me try ur first advice first for 3.3 ghz n if it stable or not (hope so). THx

Why don't you try it and see?

Chances are that your CPU will need better cooling, I didn't realise it was a B3.

Try it first and see how you go
