Default p5k and Q6600 FSB locked?

I have a p5k deluxe and a q6600. I used Clunk's great guide back when I got it all in July and brought the system to a bland 3.0 ghz. In a recent bios update (to 0705), I have been unable to affect the FSB manual setting. In bios I have it set to 333, but it shows up in CPUz as 266 and the processor speed isn't changed (both in bios and in windows.)

The options in bios have changed some since Clunk's original article but I've implemented all of the suggested settings, turned everything to disabled in the CPU section of advanced, and still seem unable to affect the FSB. I'm certain I'm missing a throttling option somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone with the new Bios have any ideas? There is also no instability regardless of the settings I use for FSB (being as they actually don't do anything, this isn't a surprise.)

Thank you for your assistance and I apologize if this is an obvious answer.

well first welcome to the forum

so first you need to run say super pi with cpuz open at the side and see if it changes speed to 3ghz if it does then yes it will be an option in the bios thats doing it try that now and report back ill go and have a look at a few screens of your bios and see if i can find what you need to change

Thanks for the welcome!

I ran super pi and occt. Neither changed my FSB in CPUz. Here's a gloriously busy screenshot. Maybe something will jump out:

Thanks again for the help!

It could be a bios issue as 1002 for P5K-E doesn't actually disable speedstep,C1E etc etc.

Asus had to issue a quick update (1004) in order to allow ppl to disable these features fully.

Did cpuz report 3Ghz before you updated your bios?

Welcome to the forums

Can you first, grab the BIOS template from here and list all your settings please?

And if you could add your system specs to your profile extra options, that would help us as well

I did but the bios version was about the September edition. When I applied the settings, the settings it put in place were not the same (probably due to the new options) including, but not limited to, turning N.O.S overclocking on.

What's also unusual is that I haven't seen any complaints on the Asus board regarding this, which is where I put odds on my fault over Asus

***OFFICIAL Asus P5K-E/WiFi Thread - XtremeSystems Forums

No time to check through the whole thread right now, but with a quick look I think I saw ONE person running bios 0705....doesn't seem too popular. Either 602, 906, 1004 or 1006 as bios 1002 also fails to disable C1E..etc...etc

From that thread: The P5K-E is a P5K Deluxe PCB but different boards and have different BIOS sets. 0705 is the latest for the P5K deluxe.

Thank you for the forum link, I can never tell which are the best forums for this kind of data. Also from reading through that thread, Asus creating a newer BIOS that actually is a step backwards seems consistent and probable. I'm new to tweaking for overclocking so it's still a suprise to me

I'll try to flashback to the 0603 (the second latest BIOS) unless there are any other recommendations. Thank you all again for taking the time to review this and having the expertise for assistance!

Can I just check that you are able to change the FSB in the BIOS, and you can actually see the figure you entered, then you save and exit the BIOS, boot to windows and the FSB is back to 266?
