Default P5K question

Hia guys. I'm a new kid on this block...but have some experience overclocking my q6600 on a P5K MB. (Up all night exparimenting, wondering if continous rebooting and power uping will eventually fry my HDD!?) Cant be good for moving parts. Cold booting necessary for certain crashing and wireless key/mouse blue tooth resetting.

My questions are these: What are the differences btwn my P5k board, and this P5k Delux, and other versions of P5K....Is the information I see in this forum applicable to my standard P5K board? Are they the same in terms of overclocking potential? Why don't I see anyone with the P5K-straight board?

Also, My Mushkin RAM is rated not at a certain voltage, but a RANGE of voltages....2.2V-2.35V ....Does this mean I can safely use any of the voltages within this range? What about higher?

Whats the highest voltage allowed for the q6600? (If temps are kept within spec range..does this mean that any voltage will be safe)....Is it all about temps...not really voltages?

q6600,mushkin 1066 5,5,4,12 500GBHDD, P5K, Thermal Master cooling, 2 case fans,

Thanks, and hello again...looks like a really informative forum...I'm excited about learning all I can about overclocking....and, oh yeah, Mr. Clunk...I read your overclocking guide all the way trhough, many times, and I thankyou for the help...however, I must add that you say many times that 'we will get back to this later', but I fiound that we somehow didnt get back to it!....Is there a methotical guide somewhere in which clear steps could be followed to accomplish a successful range of overclocks....with an explanitation of each bios entry so we can make informed decisions.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums

The standard P5K is a chopped down version of the now discontinued P5K deluxe.

If I remember right, the standard P5K didn't have E-SATA, only had 1xLAN, less SATA ports (maybe), no RAID, no firewire, different voltage circuitry, different onboard cooling etc....a budget board really.

The same goes for the other P5K boards, each have something chopped down or slightly different to the original, most notably the BIOS voltage options are reduced.

If you mean the overclocking guide add-on for the P5K deluxe?, then yes, that info can be used on any of the P5K boards really. As I mentioned above, some of the board's BIOSes may look slightly more sparse, but the main features are the same.

Can you tell me which things aren't explained in the guide? Let me know, and I will fix them today if I can.
