Hello all, found this forum a few weeks back as i waited for my new setup to arrive and was about to overclock for the first time. Been reading plenty of posts and building up my knowledge ahead of building my system.
I have built a system with:
Intel Quad Core Q6600
Asus P5k Premium
OCZ 2 x 2048
Ram PC6400 800mhz
Air cooled with Akasa Revo
I have upped the
FSB to 333 and changed the
RAM to 2.1v as this is the recommended voltage for the
RAM. Set the timings to 4-4-4-15, again as recommended by the manufacturers.
On boot it posts as 3.01ghz. In windows XP its showing as 3.0ghz. Everything seems really stable and i was able to then install Vista x64 as dual booting. There were no issues installing this and it all went very quickly so the system seems to be going great, although i havent put it under any stress tests yet. Not really wanting to overclock it much more than this (unless anyone can recommend anything else i should change)
CPUZ however is showing me a speed, mostly of 2.003 ghz and the multiplier is set to x6. Occasionally the speed will jump up to 3.0 ghz and the multiplier will show as x9. Is there a setting i need to change in the
BIOS to keep it as x9? Or is CPUZ just reporting wrong? Bus Speed is showing at 334 and rated
FSB 1335.
Sorry if this is a silly
post. Totally new to OCing and stil trying to get used to it.
