Default Tweaking DFI X38 and E8200 to 4GHz

Hia,
Having read the thread and lots of other besides as well as the OC forum here. I am still having problems getting my chip to OC past 3.7 ghz stable. It does not seem to be the RAM as this can be OC to 1153 Mhz with 5,5,5,15

System: Windows XP
CPU: E8200
MB: DFI Lanparty DK X38 TR2
2 gb RAM: Dual channel DDR2 OCZ Reaper - 1066Mhz
Stock Cooler

Bios – Latest version from DFI
Only Muti core enabled
FSB: 465 @ 3720Mhz
Multiplier 8
CPU: 1.28v
VTT: 1.25v
RAM: 2.35V (5,5,5,15 Manual timings) 300/800 running at 1117Mhz
NB: 1.555v (Temp 35 Deg)
SB/PPL 1.51
PCIE 101
Clockgen: 3.45v
GTL0/2 0.667x
GTL1/3 0.667x
NB GTL 0.67x
Droop enabled

VID 1.2250

Idle CUP temp 42 deg – Smart Guardian + Real Temp

The problem seems to be with FSB – If I raise this on a multiplier of 6 for example with the RAM 1:1 over 465 the system becomes unstable. Therefore it is not the RAM.

After searching the web I have found some general voltages to stick by:
Intel recommends:
VVT MAX 1.45v (1.34 seems to be the max recommend here)
CPU MAX 1.45v (though most users recommend 1.35 max)
Max temp 85 deg

PCIE MAX 110
SB CPU PLL MAX 1.65v
NB voltage unknown – Most figures seem to be around 1.55v and temp dependant – (any ideas here?

I have tried increasing core voltage a little but have the same problems i.e

Windows wont load - Freezes at black loading screen or Blue entry screen or if it does load at 470 FSB then Call of Duty 4 crashes with a stuttering electronic sound

Can anyone recommend what steps I should take to OC to 4Ghz? I some how need to stabilise a higher FSB it would seem, but u guys may have other ideas as Im pretty new to the game.

Please let me know if I have missed any info here, any ideas welcome.

Cheers
Vit

Hi!
Please post a BIOS template with all your settings, and enter your system specs in User CP>Extra Options>System Specs.

Anymore info needed let me know.

Regards

Vit

Need to press "F9" at the main BIOS screen to gain access to the other settings.

I think you may have a problem of incompatibility between your RAM and the motherboard: when you put the sticks like you did you run single channel instead of dual, effectively cutting in half your memory speed.
There are 2 possibilities: either you have sticks from a batch that have the tRFC set too low, or they are just corrupted and will give up the ghost shortly, expecially if you put 2.3 Volts through them without direct (as in fan over the ram) airflow.

Now, try and set all frequencies to stock, manually set the tRFC timing to something like 70 or more, use a vDIMM of 2.1 and boot your system with a memtest86+ CD wich you can get here.
Start the test and let it run multiple times (ie to 200% or 300%), but be sure to put a fan on the momory as it will get very hot, something like a 80mm will do.
Do this with one stick at a time and then put them in dual channel configuration, using only the yellow or the orange slots (=leave one empty slot between each stick).
If errors start to pop up in the lower half of the screen while you run the test, it means your have to RMA your memory.

Welcome to the forums

Without looking at the settings, what you say about the memory not working in dual channel is quite worrying.

Do you have some other memory to try?

It could also be a bad slot or faulty memory controller.

First of all, grab memtest86+ V2.xx and run test 5 on each stick individually, make sure the memory is set to whatever the manufacturer recommends for both the timings and voltages - keep the CPU at stock speed.

This should help narrow things down a bit.

Comp wont boot due to C1 error if:

1.Either stick of RAM occupies either of the 2 ram slots furthest from the CPU.

I therefore cannot test dual channel mode

Settings are stock (CPU and RAM):
2.1V,
333/1066,DDR2
1066 MHz
5, 5, 5, 15

I reckon that screams motherboad problem - there is an orange light on above and central to the ram slots on the Mobo next to the writing ' DDR2_3 and DDR2_4' I suspect it is meant to be on but u never know.

Can I just confirm that 333/1066 is correct and not too high for DDR2? As far as understood, despite it being DDR 2 if the comp reads 1066Mhz then the speed is correct for default settings?

Sounds like a faulty board then, RMA time

Did you try manually increasing the tRFC top over 70?
And after that try dual channel.
Or you could try another kit of memory if you have one.
