Default Fine tune E8600 (4.5GHz) on DFI X48 T2R

I try to get my system stable in 4.5GHz (450x10) for gaming with low voltage but no success so far. I have started to play with GTL and I can see some improvement but still not there yet...

I have tryed these settings so far:

Vcore 1.4V
Vtt:1.3V (in bios)
PLL:1.51V (in bios)
NB:1.6V (in bios)

with GTL: 68, 66, 45 the system freeze after some minute in OS.
with GTL: 67, 65, 45 can I run prime for 7min then BS.
with GTL: 66, 64, 44 nearly the same as above.
After that I needed to clear cmos....

I have seen that my board like ~63% of Vtt but I am not sure about nb ref!?

So what are my next step....shall I bump up Vcore some more or try more GTL settings. Try lover Vtt...?

Thanks in advance..

Hi there and welcome!

Try setting the NB GTL to around 67% and see what happens.
Also, isn't your NB voltage a little highish for just 450 FSB?

Welcome to the forums

Yes, as kelainefes says, 67% is a good place to start on the NB.

Something i have said on other forums, so might as well say it here . E8500/E8600's do not respond to, or need VTT any higher than 1.17v. Indeed unless you are running over 500 FSB, VTT can be left on the default of 1.1v and GTL's disabled. This certainly applies to my mobo, and i think that Praz and Rgone would back that up with the X48 as well.

So if you want to get your clock stable, set VTT to 1.1v and GTL's to disabled. You will find that the most significant bios tweak you can do to aid stability is to set your Slew rates as strong as you can. As Kelainefes has said, at 1.6v, your NB voltage is miles too high. Somwhere around 1.37/1.41 would be about the right voltage for 4gigs of ram at your FSB. Running the NB voltage too high will cause as much instability, as running it too low.

Thank you for quick reply!

I notice there was a new bios out so I flashed it due to bios 725 sucks for me!
The new bios 829 seems to work much better compared to 725.

I started with:

450x10
Vcore 1.4V
Vtt 1.25 (in bios)
nb 1.43 (in bios)
PLL 1.51 (allways 1.51V)

That run for 18min in Prime then one thread faild.

I changed nb to 1.4V and the result was 3min prime then BS.
I changed nb to 1.5V and the result was 10min prime then BS.
After that I set back nb to 1.43V and set Vtt 1.26.....Prime for 7min then reboot.
Tryed Vtt 1.24V and got BS after 3min.

ATM I run 445x10 with first setup and have run prime for nearly 2 hour so thats great. That is stable enough for me!
Well....so to run 450x10 I probably need more Vcore or play with GTL, right?

Kitfit1: It was not possible to boot with out GTL ref at 450x10, 1.4V... I needed 1.42V to reach OS and 1.45V to run stable.
This new bios seems to help me a lot.

Hej vega,
Welcome to the forums,

Can you use the BIOS template in my sig to list all your settings, i have the same RAM, CPU and Mobo as you (BIOS 725) and my E8600@4.5Ghz seems happy @1.31v so ill see if i am doing anything different incase that helps.

Weird, he's on water and can't get where you do on air with way less voltage...
Maybe something in the bios got corrupted or is not working correctly, expecially if he used a saved setting from a older BIOS; i would do a CMOS clear and start from all default, you know, just to be sure.

Saved profiles from one bios should never be used with another bios. You should overrite all the saved profiles, and then start the clock again from scratch. When you get a stable clock, then save it.
