Default First OC need help

OK, well I've read the tutorial (very usefull, thankyou) and have overclocked my e2180, I have got it to 2.8 stable (currently testing 2.85) but if I pu it to 2.9 it fails Orthos (first test after about 15 mins, second after about 30 mins) I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard with OCZ PC2-9200 CL5 (2x1GB) RAM, the multi on the CPU is 10, so the rated FSB is 1140, which is fine for the motherboard (supports upto 1333) and the RAM is 1150, so it is close, but surly the RAM should OC too?

Thanks for your help and if you need any more info, let me know.

Looks like you need to up your Vcore a little maybe northbridge too, but leave that for now.

I would try increasing the vcore from 1.35v(stock) to maybe 1.375v/1.4v(ish) and up your FSB to 290 again and test.
Use realtemp to keep a watch on the extra heat you will generate as i am unsure what the E2180 is like with more vcore.

also set you ram to its rated voltage too. see the sticker on them for VDIMM.

Then try higher until it becomes unstable again and if you are comfortable with notching up the vcore again try the FSB at 300.

Mr Supershanks is our resident Gigabyte authority so perhaps he will lend more advice when he sees this.

What sort of clocks will you be shooting for?

Those chips can go quite high as i remember but as every take your time and test after each change

ok, well i'm setting the CPU to 1.375 volts and trying that, however this bios doesn't seem to just let you set a voltage for the RAM the options in "DDR2 Overvoltage" are: "Normal, +0.1V, +0.2V etc" what do I need to set it too? the sticker on the RAM sticks say they want 2.1V

tried it at 1.375V and 2.9GHz, however it couldn't boot into windows, just kept restarting.

EDIT: oh, and I was wanting about 3.2Ghz however, this is my first OC so I don't mind so much if I don't get there.

I think there might be something wrong, I have the bios set to 1.4V for the CPU, however CPU-Z shows 1.36V, Coretemp shows 1.325V, and CPUID Hardware monitor shows 1.36V is there something wrong with my board?

It's called Vdroop, it's normal.

As for software monitoring, don't read too much into those, just choose one and stick with that or you'll be worrying needlessly

ok, it's just that the votage didn't seem to change in all three programs between changing the votage from 1.325 to 1.4V

EDIT: I've set it to 1.4V and 2.9GHz and tried the blend test on Orthos (as have been doing before) and it has failed after 2 seconds, for 4 tests in a row. Any ideas what to change?

Hi thingie2
if your memory is the ocz reaper or flex then the rated voltage is between 2.1 - 2.3 Volts , on the gigabyte board that means a DDR2 OverVoltage Control of +0.3 to +0.5v (2.1v -1.8v (Std JDEC Voltage) )

Your voltages are greyed out because you have system voltages set to auto.
That's likely to be your biggest issue, try that & see where you get to.
