Default Building/Testing Barebones

During build or troubleshooting, there comes a time when you need to test core components.
This is often better outside the case to simplify troubleshooting, by reducing the number of variables, for example it eliminates any possible grounding issues with case. It also makes it easier to mount that huge heatsink you've got and test that it's not crushed your CPU

Only the following need be connected:-
CPU, mounted with heatsink & fan.
Stick of memory
Gfx card
Keyboard

1) Place mobo on non conductive surface. (Cardboard, wood, non-metallic)
2) Mount CPU, heatsink & fan (see 2) 2) Mount the CPU. & 3) Mount CPU Cooler. for more detail.
3) Insert Memory module (Insert Memory module
4) Plug in keyboard
5) Plug in 12v & 20/24 pin mobo power leads. (see 10) Connecting Power Connections
6) Mount graphics card & connect power if needed.
Don't forget to plug monitor into card.

You should now be looking like:-

7) Start-Up Insert mains power lead to psu & turn on power & PSU.

Some mobo's have a power button on the mobo, which can be just turned
on.

Other mobo’s require jump starting. To do this 1st identify the PWR Ground pins (power switch pins to you & me)
P5k is shown here

Using a screwdriver or something metallic, touch both pins as shown

Things should now fire up & you can get into bios. If not see troubleshooting for ideas, solutions & tests.
