Probably it is just that the stick(or sticks) are dying and not fully dead
Something similar just happened to my brother, first the PC wouldn't boot, then it would with any of the two, then only when in dual channel... madness.

I agree, a dead or dying stick or sticks.

The trouble is, if they are D9 ballistix, they are prone to early death, so aside from putting a fan over them, theres not much else you can do that won't invalidate the warranty.

Did you test all the sticks at their full speed?

The system is fine until you put the 4th stick in place?

And it doesn't matter which stick is the 4th stick? (in other words, you can remove the 4th stick from any slot and still get the problems?).

Have you reset the CMOS with the battery out and left it overnight....RAM removed, PSU unplugged?

So you're saying that 3 random picked sticks will work, but 4 will not?

And also, what O/S are you using? Is it a fresh install? All updated? Latest INF drivers installed?

im running windows vista 64 bit - it is a recent install yes - i actually had problems installing windows with 4gb ram and that was when i sent 1gb back for a replacement and this was on another board.

yes i have everything updated fully

Also today something really strange happened.

Woke up to find a BSOD on my 3gb system, NDIS.SYS

then i restarted and got another one on boot called NETR7364

so i restarted again and it booted and i got into windows but anti virus wasnt started so i restarted again and got another bsod: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

dont know why all that happened maybe something else i dont know, i have uninstalled a programme i think caused that but there is deffo something with 4GB ram.

i just dont understand it, perhaps i should do a clean install. Just install windows, my motherboard drivers and my belkin driver and then update windows fully.

i will clear the cmos tomorrow night and take put psu and see if that helps tomorrow/
