Default Asus Maximus Formula Problems, Fixes and General Help.

I have made this thread so that people that need help with their board dont get lost in the huge review thread.

I will start adding stuff tomorrow, but if you have any tips or trick with the Maximus boards, feel free to post them here

Hi,

So I took off the Fuzion block after weeks of use and the initial plan was to replace the thermal pad with some AS5, but that didn't work out. The thermal pad was rock, it completely ignored Maplin TIM remover and Isopropyl Alcohol and Acetone (Nail Polish remover) only manged to take half of it off (the rest is so thick it wouldn't budge). I also tried the hot blow dryer method too for reference.

Anyway, I kind of given up on that and I'm now turning to HR-05, I would need 2 of them for both NB and SB right? You think its ok if I reuse the mofset cooling portion of the block? (instead of HR-09).

Thx for help!

the 2 stage arctic silver thermal paste remover and conditioner worked fairly well for removing the hard thermal pads on the nb and sb for me. I'm also using only the mosfet cooling portion of the thermal pipe assembly with the rest watercooled, seems to work fine.

Akasa TIM cleaner hardly made a mark on that stuff on mine either. It took a bit of a long soak.

Yeah, TIM cleaner had almost no effect, and I have used that stuff to clean other stock thermal pads before so it's certainly not weak.

Using nail polish remover, it worked on the thin parts of the pad (morealike melted), but the thick edges were still intact and no amount of scraping did any good. In the end I decided to replace it with HR-05s but I since I was lapping my CPU today I thought might was well sand the rest off I did have to bend the SB pipe a little though.

It's not that bad actually, the NB temp actually went down after reapplting some AS5 (SB stayed the same since I wasn't bothered with dealing another thermal pad).

Has anyone done a sucsessful watercooling setup using the fusion block that comes with this MB?

I just ordered the board and am waiting on the Koolance PC3-725BK Professional Line Case to get here. This will be my first Watercooled system, and want to make sure I do it right. So any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

I haven't done it myself, but I've seen several others do it, and it seems to give slightly better temps than air cooling the same block.

You will need 3/8" ID tubing, or you can use 1/2" ID if you use the supplied adapters.

P.S. did you have trouble logging in with your other account?

Yes, I never did recieve the email to activate that other account. So I created this one and used a different email address. I didn't see an option anywhere to resend another activation email.

I haven't got the Maximus but I've watercooled the Fusion block on the Blitz. I can't post the URL to my project as I haven't done 5 posts yet! log but google "watercooling the Asus Blitz" and it should come up - should be over at Custom PC.
