Gaming Mice for Photoshop - Better or worse than normal mice?
Has anyone used one of these high DPI mice for photoshop stuff? I'm wondering whether they would be more accurate for cropping and stuff?
Maybe Logitech G5 or similar?

I have a Graphic designer friend who swears by his G5 for both design and gaming.

I did have until recently the newer style Logitech G5 which for accuracy was absolutely great, on the mark every time, you have 3 instanly changable DPI levels from low to high. I had mine on medium for most things, it was really weird and sensitive when I first got it but it soon becomes like 2nd nature. Going back to a normal mouse for a little while felt really wrong. The only reason I dont have it now is that the scroll wheel was IMHO horrible, it worked but felt scratchy like the internal plastic cogs etc were on the verge of breaking (any old timers remember the multicoloured joysticks - Zipsticks, same feeling when they broke!) I went thru 4 different G5's but couldnt get used to it. Now have a Logitech MX Reveloution, metal wheels & cogs are 1st class, a world apart, however the mouse isnt as accurate and sensitive as the G5.....swings and roundabouts

Yeah, I have an MX revolution and a VX revolution, but they are a bit pants when it comes to really fine cropping and photo editing, for everything else they are great.
Doesn't the new G5 have the same wheel as the VX/MX?

i use a Razer Copperhead and love it, if i need it slower i press in the middle and set the sensitivity lower, was hard getting use to such a light mouse but i wanted more side buttons!

I don't do any photoshopping, but I got a Logitech G5 with my new PC, and apart from one small niggle, I really can't fault it...
Being able to program macros directly to the mouse, so if I happen to have to take it somwhere, or to another pc, anything I have programmed is stored on the mouse, no hassles with instaklling software. It really is the most accurate mouse I've ever had, and I can change the DPI settings with two buttons just below the main mouse button. The wheel is great too, with being able to let it spin freely, or with detents as normal wheels do.
The only problem I have is to do with the wheel; When it's set on the detents setting, the click of the middle button isn't as definite as it should be... it's a little squidgy. That, and having the button for the scrolling function on the bottom of the mouse is about all I can find wrong with it

Nah the G5 has a standard rubber type scroll wheel not like the metaly (is that a word? it is now!) wheel the MX has. Other than that I really wanted to keep the G5 as it is a little more comfortable than the MX and the switchable DPI was great, however it may be just me as loads of people swear by the G5 and I havent yet seen anyone moan about the scroller like i have just done

Ah, sorry, it's this one I was meaning..G9, not G5
I love the wheel on the MX/VX series, that's what caught my eye with the G9.

That mouse reminds me of my old mx1000, which i sold after going to my copperhead, always like the feel of the logitech mice but back then the g5 didnt have the 2 side buttons i wanted, i would have to give this one a feel to see how the side buttons are able to be reached and stuff but my copperhead does the job fine, dont think i will need more then 2000dpi!

I'm using a OCZ Equalizer, it goes up to 2500 DPI and you can set different sensitivities for x and y amongst other things.
I go from side to side of my monitor (1680x1050) in like 3 inches, maybe less.
Accuracy is unbelieavable (i can still snipe with it in cod4) and when cropping in photoshop it is ok until you really have to be very precise, then maybe it's better to go down to 2000 or 1600.
One of it's major advantages is that it costs 26 euros, and everybody who uses it swears that is great non just for the price but that it is a match for more expensive models.
