Default Bios chips for motherboards.

I stumbled on this Pre programmed BIOS chips on eBay
Worth it if you have fried your BIOS (blackout while flashing etc).

Aye, I ordered a bios chip for my T3RS from the ebay guy a week or two ago... It came very quickly considering they come from the US, and nicely packaged, wrapped up in it's own little anti static package.

Turns out I didn't need it in the end as my ram has the SPD programmed to 9-9-9, I thought it'd be lower latencies at lower clocks. I'm glad I got it though; £8 or so isn't much for piece of mind!

A lot of these BIOS chips are of a type that would be difficult for the ave person to put in. Some of them are plug in and some are SMD . Most of the chippies on the first site (ebay) appear to be plug in but not clear if you have to fit a carrier or not . It would be a useful exercise to find out which m/b's (A-BIT apart) have direct plug in chips. Now I looked at the ebay site but could not recognise at a glance which modern m/bs had direct plug in chips . My m/b giga ds4 has soldered in chippie. Giga used to provide a back up chip (soldered) in case the primary got corrupted. I would prefer to buy a m/b which had a plug in chippie . Now ,not being up on all series of m/b's I did not recognise a lot of the motherboards quoted so would like to know which intel and amd (modern ones) have plug -in jobbies.

Let ye understand I used to blow chippies 30 years ago and used to deal a lot with 'herring bone stuff' HOD but as time passes I find it more difficult to fit 'carriers' etc peepers are going

By the way : I have never 'had to flash or update a BIOS on any comp that I have built (they have all worked and given no trouble apart from a jetway one which I thought was a really good m/b and had to be replaced after 6 years as caps were leaking).

Interesting, DFI seem to be pretty good boards that can achieve a fairly high fsb as well. Thanks for reply.
