Ok. I will have a go at that and let you know, but how do i go about doing the GTL Ref tweakage then ?

The NB voltage up ok ... but the CPU i can only go to 1.3625 according to Intel:
Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9650 - SLAN3

I just tried going up a bit on all three step by step.

It kept just freezing once you could see the desktop and the background loading was taking place.

It seems very sensitive. Maybe i should get some RAM's that are easier to chew for this mobo or know to be better configurable ...

I will have a more analytical approach in the morning. I need to do something right now unfortunately.

Btw - If it freezes like that does that mean the voltage is insufficient/not high enough ?

What worries me the most is that i have not found one config in all those tries that was just a bit near to working ... besides the default one.

Well, Intel don't really want you to overclock at all. Remember that there is an element of risk with all overclocking and overvolting, and whatever you do, you are running the CPU out of the manufacturers specs.

It's just a chance you take when you do these things.

Saying that though, you shouldn't need 1.3625v for what we are trying to do.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were using 8GB.

That makes things a little different.

Can you just load the optimal settings (and then set your ram voltage and timings) from the BIOS and then run prime, with large FFTs, I just want to check your memory is working ok....the freezing and BSODs can just be as simple as the wrong settings, but it can also be bad memory or a corrupt CMOS, so best to check these things first

If it isn't stable with the optimal settings, then we need to look further.

Hi Clunk.

ok i will do that. Actualy at the moment i only have 4GB in there cause i tried to see if one set of RAM might work differently searching for a possible bad RAM, but they all reacted the same.

I will let you know tomorrow then. I will let prime run tonight.

I am actually thinking of getting different RAM'S anyway tho.

Maybe these. I think they are less sensitive than the OCZ:

ALTERNATE - HARDWARE - Arbeitsspeicher - DDR2 - DDR2-1066 - Corsair DIMM 4 GB DDR2-1066 Dominator EPP Kit

Cheers

Andy

Hi Clunk,

i think i found the problem. A friend gave me the hint to it. My Zalman 850 power supply seems to be not consistent enough as the mobo uses digital power management. As far as i know there is even a thread on DFI about this with like 50 posts.

I will keep you guys updated as soon as i get a compatible power supply.

I'm glad you found the problem, oddly though, I have that PSU in my main rig and it's fine!
