Default DFI LT X48 and E8500 Locking up..... Help

Hi all, just upgraded my CPU from an E6600 to a new E8500 problems started when I installed it this afternoon. I can't get into windows without it locking up and hearing a horrible screeching sound coming from my speakers. This happens after I logg in and hear the windows XP startup. All I did was to remove my old E6600 for the new E8500 cleared the CMOS and rebooted went straight to the BIOS and set the obvious stuff up then rebooted and thats when all the trouble started.

I have removed the sound card and software, changed the memory even turned off the antivirus in safe mode, but still she won't start without locking up. I have read that there may be problems with my memory and running this board, but I found it to be fine with the E6600. Would really appreciate any pointers as I'm totally stuck?

HT

p.s Did post my problem over at extremesystems, but so far no one seems to know what it may be

What software do you have on auto start?
Could it be some old version of temp monitoring software?
What other memory modules you tried?
Have you tried to boot with just one stick?
