The GTL Ref part is to be taken quite literally as a starting point - it may work, it may not - The only true way to find the correct GTL ref values for this board is to measure yourself with a good quality DMM.

The tables were originally made by DFI on an early board with an early BIOS, so chances are that things will have changed now. It was also written for 65nm CPUs - the values for 45nm CPUs will be different and as far as I know, no one ever made a table for those.

The best advice I can offer is to have a play around with the settings, if you don't have a DMM, it a case of trial and error I'm afraid.

In my experience with my E8600 and this board, it worked best with the GTL ref adjustment disabled.

i am very new to overclocking
on my DFI lan party i can not seem to get my E8400 over 3.7 GHz atm my cpu VID special add is 0.50mv, cpu Z says the core coltage is 1.232. I do not have cpu VID control option. at 422x9 i have gone all the way up to 1.60mv and 1.30V or so with the NB volts but still unstable when i run any cpu stress test

any suggestions?

Hey Clunk or anyone smarter than me,

I must be dense but I don't get this GTL table at all, can you pretend you're explaining it to a 5 year old? I'm so lost, I have a Q9550 that will do 4000MHz(471x8.5) on a Rampage and an Asrock P45XE but I'm stuck at 450FSB with the LTx48 at the exact same settings. The board just coughs and chokes, now I should be good on the other settings but this GTL thing has me baffled... and do I even need it at 471FSB?

When I started Overclocking in the 90's you didn't really need a Masters degree in mathematics. And really if it's all just a formula couldn't they just adjust the GTL depending on your VTT behind the scenes? It seems needlessly complicated to me.

So maybe if I can figure out this table I can figure out where the problem lies.

Yeah I already read all of that thanks!, this table seems great though(Because I'm Lazy) but it's just not sinking in. Especially the coulor coding, I don't get why they're all on seperate lines of VTT in the table... ???

I'm the first to agree that the GTL Ref can be complicated to work out. The tables are to get you in the right ballpark, that's all.

Unfortunately, the tables were written for 65nm CPUs, and as far as I know, no-one has taken the time to do a table for 45nm quads.

From personal experience, I'd say you may be better off disabling the GTL ref setting and see how you go, that should be the closest to auto as you'll get on this board.

Hello t00nCiNaToR, I think you should know that ASUS motherboards, when overclocked with voltage settings left on auto, will heavily overvolt PLL and VTT and NB, so that's probably why you can't get the same overclock on this motherboard, because it's using less voltage.
