Ok, let's have a little experiment...

Disable and Turn Off Windows Vista Search Indexer and Indexing Service » My Digital Life

Do that, reboot, check it's all off and try it all again.

...and report back in an earnest manner

If I did decide to get a new board (note: I probably won't) what would you two recommend?

Boards I like would be Abit IP-35 pro for P35, for X38, Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 from Supershank's blog, but I would hold out for X48 to see how they fly.

You don't have MS One Care running do you??

And does it happen on all files of all sizes?

So a 60 or 600 MB file suffers exactly the same as > 4GB files?

Then split the files up

I know what i would do, I'd get it on a bench and strip it right back and get things like process explorer on it to get a concrete sense of what's going on over a period of time, but that's not ideal for you as you're using the thing.

I'm mentally doing 5 different things at once when i reply. Leave it with me to digest, again. Unless you think of something else.
