Default DFI X48 LT T2R - 8GB of ram?

Hello guys,

I want to upgrade to 8gb (4 x 2GB) of ram. I can't add in anymore OCZ Flex ram as the heatsinks are too big. I am currently water cooling my CPU and NB.

What is realistically the fastest 4 x 2GB of ram the X48 NB can handle? I was hoping to reach 1185mhz, but I don't know if it's possible.

There's no point spending the extra money on a high speed kit, if Im limited my the NB. For video editing, I would prefer more ram over faster ram if it comes down to that.

Mmmh, honestly I doubt you'll be able to run at that frequency with 8GB of memory. I am currently testing 8 GB of DDR2 1066 on another board, but I will try them on my LT X48 T2R as well in a few days.

Depends on the RAM and how good your NB is.

Thing is, with 4GB, you just don't need the raw speed, the extra capacity will give you a better and noticeable benefit.

Cheers for the replies. Temps wont be an issue, but i guess it's the luck of the draw how good the NB is.

I think the quality of the memory ICs it's got more to do with it than the NB.
Right now I got 8GB on a P45 mobo at 1066MHz (FSB 444 with 300/800 strap) 5-5-5-18 with about 1.87 vDIMM and 1.24 Volts on the NB.

Did you get the 8GB of RAM in the end. I'm considering sticking another 2x2 in and was wondering how stable it is.

Yes I got it.
Stable at DDR2-1188 5-5-5-18 with about 1.85 vDIMM (cheked with a DMM, in the BIOS I needed to set about 1.878). I used the 333/800 strap 495 FSB.
I needed about 1.48 vNB though.

Well if I run the memory at 1080, I can keep the NB at stock, about 1.25V and the memory at about 1.76V. The new OCZ Low Voltage sticks are amazing.
