Sennheiser HD 595
Any feedback on these cans? Looking to purchase a new headset and was thinking about this one. Anyone know the specs? I have a larger head and wanted to make sure they would fit .. Any comments would be appreciated ...

Michael. Are you using the headset for gaming also? If so, check out the Raptor Headset, Zockershirts 5.1 headset.
Raptor gaming dot com
I missed the last set here in Australia but the guy who bought the first of the 2 sets says it is "Like Sex to his ears"
May be worth a look if it's up your alley?!?!?!?!?!?!

The 595 are 120 Ohms, you may need a headphone amplifier, although your card will probably be able to drive them properly (depends on the output impedance as the output opamps are high quality), i think maybe you won't get very high volumes without an amplifier.

If it has a headphone output, it should be ok, if it is a not a PC oriented system with a sub the size of a shoes box it will not.
What i mean is, hook them up to the receiver.

Lol at the Raptor omgwtfbbq 5.1 realtruesurround headset. Almost all "gaming" headsets are junk.
A good alternative for the HD595 is the AudioTechnica A700(closed),AD700(open) or the A900. These have a low impedance and can be driven without an amp(a good amp is not cheap so the combo HD595+head amp is gonna cost you something).
But note that for each headphone it is said that he amped vs unamped listening experience can vary a lot(much better of course).
HD595 or the AudioTechnicas plus the Zalman mic is a pretty nice combo.

specifics are a must when talking to a newbie like me .. what is the difference between closed and open? also, amped vs unamped .. I have a good system, specs are in this posthttp://http://www.clunk.org.uk/forum...html#post33132 .. So do I need an amp with this system? What would be the advantage of one? Im looking for awesome sound and to fully utilize my system and its possibilites .. Plus, I want to use my cans with my ipod on trips .. Can i use these cans with the ipod without an amp? Is there two types, one that is portable and one that is desktop? sooo many questions lol ... so the schooling begins .. Clunk, just when i think i know A LITTLE BIT a new can of worms opens it seems ... LOL

If you want your headphones to work with an iPod you need to choose a model that has no more than 64 Ohm impedance.
I'd say choose between:
Sony MDR-7509HD
Sony MDR-7506HD
Sennheiser HD 25-1 II
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (the low impedance version)
All this are "Pro" models as in they are used in recording studios and i can tell you that the first 3 models are VERY good imho as i used them, the Beyerdynamics i've just heard about them. I know for a fact that the first 3 models are also very rugged and will survive traveling and will work with portable devices. The DT 770 PRO should work well too, but as i said i haven't actually used them.
All of this cans are light years above gaming headsets in terms of quality.

Kelainefes you have to take into account that the Beyers have 80ohm impedance.
michaelcooper5 i strongly advise you to take into account also the AudioTechnicas, you will be pleasantly surprised by them.
