Default RAID - recommend me some drives

Chaps,

I'm likely to be moving to a new mobo shortly and would like to move back into RAID territory for my OS, Games and applications.... I had used RAID 0 on a previous mega-rig but have since flogged the 2 Raptor Xs so here are the options:

I already have 2 750GB Sammy F1 drives.....should I buy a further 2 of these and RAID 5 em.... or should I RAID 1 these 750GB Sammy drives and get a further 2 drives of a different type?

If I went for the latter of the above options I'd be looking for 2 new drives which give good speed and bang for buck - capacity isn't so much of an issue here because if I go for the RAID 0 option here my data will be stored on a 750GB RAID 1 array anyway.

Cheers

How much space do you need? What speeds you looking for?

What about those new Intel SSD drives? A couple of those should slaughter the raptor set up...in fact I think one of them might

Edit: I just noticed you said bang for buck, so forget my idea

Space - I would be looking for at least 300GB (so x2 250GB drives) - I've really lost touch with the HDD 'what's hot and what's not' side of things - would be great if the drives could at the very least match my old raptor x raid 0 array....

hi,

you can try 2 of those:
Seagate ST3250310NS 250 GB (Barracuda ES.2, 24/7), i ´m using them in Raid 0 as Data Raid, and they work pretty good and fast. furthermore they have extended warranty, because theyy are sold as NetWork Drive, free 2 use 24/7.

i don´t know if this mighjt fight in your solution concept, but i like this HDD by Seagate, allthoughi prefer WD.
