Default Question Concerning Gigabyte Board's

Hi,

I have a question concerning Gigabyte motherboards and the revision numbers I see on their website:

I have noticed that certain motherboards, such as the GA-EP45-DQ6 and GA-EP45-DS5, have "(rev. 1.0)" beside the title. What exactly does this mean? Have these boards been physically revised, so that when I go to purchase one I should make sure I get revision 1.0, or is the revision something to do with the BIOS?

If the revision is to do with the manufacturing process, how do I find out what has been modified in the revision, and how do I know if the board I'm buying is the latest revision?

Welcome to the forums

I'm fairly sure that the revision is for the PCB.

I would say that if you need detailed info on what's changed, to contact Gigabyte directly as they are the only people that really know.

Hi Skakruk,
Welcome to the forum.
Gigabyte are one of the few companies that occasionally put out revisions as you've noticed. Think it's more of an upset if you have an earlier board and it's revised. Just keep your eye on the gigabyte site they quote the latest revision number by product. The only risk you have is if you have a disreputable supplier who sells you an old revision.

Well there's the problem: most of them don't even seem aware that a new revision exists, so it's very difficult to know.

Well Rev 1.0 is the first revision, ie no earlier versions on sale, so stockists will be unaware of any revision
The revision number like most manufacturers is shown on the board. you can see it on the top left near the pci/pci-e slots. See shot 2.
Of 4 boards i've had the only board I'm aware of being revised that was the X48T.

So you are saying that all the revising takes place before the board goes into production?

A new revision board was released , superseding the original .
My point was if it says revision 1.0 it's the 1st , so retailers might be confused if you start asking about latest revision

OK, but why do they bother to specify Revision 1.0 for some boards (eg. GA-EP45-DQ6), and not others (eg. GA-X48-DQ6)?

You need to ask Gigabyte directly, only they will know the answer to that.
