Default Screen if you want to go faster....or something

I'm thinking of praps upgrading my monitor for crimblers (pending some commission coming in hopefully). And am not sure which direction to head in - for the same price as a 30" monitor I can get myself a decent flat panel TV.

Granted - it won't be anywhere near the resolution, but I'll be using it for gaming predominantly and movies. What are peoples thoughts on this.

On another note, I've got a Razer AC-1 soundcard (see what I did there!) and its completely trousers, I was well and truly seen off when I bought this pup. However I want to bypass the card by running an optical our direct into an AV receiver / pre-amp and then use the equalizer etc on the preamp.

Has anyone got any experience of this, or am I barking up the wrong tree. And should just accept that you can't polish a turd and buy a new card, also if anyone can make a recommendation of a decent receiver etc.

Whats wrong with the card? Is it faulty? Everybody says that card is great! I have the headphones but there just directly into my onboard on my current motherboard via some splitters? Would appreciate some feedback as the card is on my current Crimbo list

About the sound card, you may want to buy a Auzentech, maybe the X-plosion 7.1.

Switch, I have been desperately disappointed with the Baraccuda card, have hooked it up to all kinds of relatively exotic audio equipment - not impressed - not even slightly.

Don't like the gui interface, its rubbish - all the preset settings are gash, i could go on but I don't want to ruin christmas for you

Have heard older less expensive cards e.g. Audigy - wipes the floor with it. Or praps its me and 2ks worth of stereo would find such holes in other cards, but from what I've heard (literally) they don't.

Don't get me wrong I am a fan of Razer products and use a copperhead mouse and tarantula keyboard, just think that they should stick to what they do best i.e. peripherals such as mice and steer clear of stuff they are rubbish at e.g audio. I know a few people who bought the matching 5.1 Headset and have had LOTS of problems with them, like had them 1 year now and are on set no. 4. And now I see that they are going for a 7.1 headset.............makes me cringe to think of the no. of rmas they'll be doing on those badboys.

I would just like to point out that this is merely my opinion on the matter and I don't mean to diss anyone's particular hardware. But I forked out 160 sheets on this particular card and don't think that I got value for money.

Using an LCD TV as a monitor can become annoying because many of them won't give you a display until it hit's Window's loading screen.

And don't forget that because a TV screen is generally much bigger and relatively low res in relation to size, your text will look much less crisp, especially if you are within a few feet of the TV.

Gaming will be fine though, in fact, gaming on a great big telly is awesome.

Ideally wanted a projector, as I've had several over the years and there is no comparison when it comes to size (played bf2 on a 20ft screen!!!), however to get good resolutions it starts getting really expensive really really quickly, so a TV is a better option until I win the lottery.

Maybe you could keep the current screen for office applications and browsing the internets, and use a big TV for gaming and movies?
