Help me choose: LP DK P45-T2RS Plus or LP DK X48-T2RSB PLUS?
Hey all,
I'm new to this forum but not new to tech forums in general. Basically, i need help deciding between these 2 boards, i'm doing an upgrade soon, selling my old hardware and getting an e8600, HD 4780 or an X2, Swiftech H20 Compact 220 kit for my first water coolng project and a new case. I picked the Plus editions of these boards since they are supposed be improved versions of tyhe original ones and the price is almost same, and i chose the DK boards and not the better LT and UT because these are UV orange and i just happened to be doind a black & orange theme, painting the interior of case black, putting in orange LED fans, UV cathodes that kind of thing. I need a board that will do at least 4.5 or more 24/7 on water, i'm not an experienced overclocker and i understand that DFI boards are more complex but still i'd like to learn how to handle em. From what i've read the P45 should do 550FSB + and its BIOS is not as difficult to navigate as on the X48 and it has excellent NB cooling that doesnt even require aftermarket cooling solutions but the X48 features a 6 phase design as opposed to 4 phase on other DK class boards. The downside of both of these boards, IMO is that none have e- SATA and fans cannot be controlled via mobo. In all honesty, im leaning towards the P45 version. But i'd like to hear what others have to say, afterall the X48 board was reviewed here.

Welcome to the forums
4.5GHz is a pretty optimistic overclock for 24/7 on water and will largely depend what kind of CPU you go for.
As far as the 550FSB goes, again, this will depend on your CPU - with a quad, forget it
Both are good boards and I doubt you would be disappointed with either.

thnx for your response
As i said, i'll be using an e8600 CPU, i think i should be getting to 4.5 or no? As far as board choice, i'm no overclocking expert, sowhich would u recomend for a first time DFI user?

It depends on the CPU you end up with, they are all different, so you can't say for sure if it will or it wont do 550FSB or 4.5GHz.
Either board will be fine. The P45 *may* overclock a touch better, but for 24/7 use on the average e8600, I don't think there will be much in it.
Overclocking on both of those boards is pretty straight forward, but if you get stuck, there's plenty of help and info available.

Hmm, i see. I thought that since all e8600 are E0 stepping they all overclock well and are the same, i guess i was mistaken. Though I understand that every system is different and as they say mileage may wary from pc to pc, i'm still hoping that i can get to 4.5 even and if i cant it will fun to try to make it happen, afterall thats what this is all about. I guess i'll go with X48 then since it has a 6 phase design but i have about 2 weeks before i buy everything so i have a chance to think about it more.
Thx for your help

Well that's the fun part, but often, people have too high expectations after seeing other people posting high overclocks and can be disappointed when theirs doesn't do the same.
E8600 E0 is undoubtedly a great CPU/stepping and will almost certainly overclock really well, but even so, it's best to aim lower and anything else will be a nice surprise
