Default BFGTech 260GTX OC Maxcore

Bought one of these a couple of weeks ago - am pretty underwhelmed by the performance.

Initially had a corsair 520w modular power supply (box said that it needed a 525w psu) anyways it makes some high pitched noises e.g. when a game is loading etc. etc.

I presumed that this was down to the card not being able to draw enough power, so I went out and bought a tagan 800w jobbie.

Guess what................its still doing it. If I load ATi tuner the little cubey thing that spins round creates the same noise, the pitch varies in syncronicity (is that a new word??) with the cube rotation

Is this to be expected or should I be returning to Scan. If it turns out to be faulty should I get something different? if so what?

It's not normal to have a noticeably above audible hum / whine, and it's unacceptable, there are things you can do to get rid of it if it's just the fan bedding in, but why should you have to? You paid for a product to work within set operating parameters. If it's as bad as you say, RMA it and get a replacement or go ati 4870. And you made a mistake swapping the Corsair for a Tagan, you should have upgraded to the 620HW.

thanks for that!!! just got off the phone to scan - they are going to rma it for me - gonna drop it off this afternoon.....hopefully. looks like it back to my trusty 8800GTS for the time being.

The card has made the noise since day one - I have fettled the card slightly - I am concerned that upon RMA scan may well tell me to get bent as it has been Occed since it was purchased.

Does anyone have any experience of this???

My GTX280 is the same in Crysis Menus now that you mention it. I normally have headphones on and don't notice it.

+1 for the HX620. I honestly think the CORSAIR HX520 "should have been" enough to power the 260. You did what anyone else would have. I can vouch for the HX620, as it runs my setup beautifully and I don't hear it even get a sweat up.

I agree with gods on the noise factor too. If it's unbearable, take it back for a trade / RMA. I don't know how you'll get on with the "noise" being the issue, but I've read a LOT of complaints on the BFG products (I believe it was the GTX range too) being faulty and a lot of RMAs going on. If you are able to get the card replaced and want the GTX260 again, the GTX260, Core 216 is being distributed now and apparently is a comparatively good "improvement" on the standard one. (I've not seen one in action against the predecessor, so I can't offer my word). I thought BFG were a great product up until the rubbishing they are copping from the buyers on OCAU (Overclockers Aus Forums), mainly heat issues and artifacting tho. ASUS make a good product and I'm partial to XFX also (actually, I like the fact that XFX clock the bejesus out of their stuff, so I don't have to)

See which product is going to suit your wallet and warranty requirements. XFX offer a double lifetime warranty of theirs but as far as I know, that's only U.S. and Canada. Now the UK is set up for XFX, I'm wondering if the UBER warranty stands there.

I used rivatuner - however I have set everything back to stock (590/1272/999). I don't know whether its me being paranoid - but it seems to be more noticeable than before.

Just a bit gutted I've bought a lemon. Have had a few BFGTech products in the past, never had any issues with them, they have all done what they said on the tin, this one does a little more unfortunately

The card I have is the new 260 GTX with 216 whatevertheyares and it is the MaxCore OC - so it slightly occed out of the box.

It made the whining from day one and as on the box min specs said 525w psu, I just thought that my trusted corsair number was not up to the job.

The Retailer I bought it from will only swap like for like - so unless I want to wait 3 weeks for a refund to purchase an alternative.

I know that its not a fan issue and is the electronics screaming for help and assistance. I will let you know how I get on. The Chap at scan told me what it was immediately - somehow I don't think that this was the first time the he's taken a call on this

With regards to the Tagan, can't really grumble about it so far, doing what I bought it to do. Read a whole host of reviews of various PSU from 600 -1200 watts - the Tagan seemed to be sat in the middle decent performance decent price job done.

I would have liked to get the 1000w corsair, but seeing as I set out to buy some new ram for 90 quid 6 weeks ago - and currently have bought 2 new motherboards, a new quad core, a 260 gtx, memory - i thought would calm down a bit kenny and not blow a further 150 sheets and opted for something a little more middle of the road / crap??

See if you were running everything at stock the 520 would probably do you, the 620HX certainly would with everything OC'd, both the 520 and 620 HX's are Seasonic OEM. Would I swap a Seasonic OEM for a Tagan? ...No, not at all. ...but you've cracked on and done it , so get a replacement card.
