The fact is that even voltmodding, the overclocks you can get for 24/7 won't give you noticeable performance increases, as in the framerates don't scale linearly increasing the frequency.
In fact i think that voltmodding makes sense only if you are trying to beat some MHz/benchmark score, or trying to uncripple a card such as a HD4850, increasing its low memory performance.

P.s.:From those pictures the power section looks totally different compared to the HD3870, if it's not a nonstandard PCB card, the HR09 Type 3 would never fit, it would be too short i think.

The type 2 has a 70mm base type 1 is a 61mm base, i think it is the bigger of the four types do you think it might be a better bet?
i reckon ill try which ever you think might be closest and if it doesnt fit i can always try it on the mobo to replace the stock mosfet cooler.

Edit: I've seen a few folk saw off the end of the stock HSF and keep it for cooling the VRMs i think i will try that if all else fails.

The idea about Vmodding the card was more for something else to do to keep me from watching TV. i love the machine i have got and everything works well i just wanted to think about what to try next. I have a 7600GS spare i was thinking about practicing on before having a blast on the 4870.
