Default ABIT IP35 Pro error 8.7

I've got the 8.7 (check CPU voltage) error after moving to a C2Q Q9550. My C2D E6750 works perfect on this board (ABIT IP35 Pro with Beta BIOS 18), but this new C2Q Q9550 gives me the 8.7 error. I already replaced the PSU, even had the C2Q Q9550 changed out for a new one. Nothing. All power leads (24, 4x, 4x, and 8x) are plugged in using a 650W Corsair PSU. I am going crazy here! Please help! Cant figure this one out.

Welcome to the Forum,

How you plugged the dual 4x and the 8x connector to the board?? I dont remember so many connector on the board

I would think that the Beta Bios is causing the problem, before trying to go back to the Bios 17 (or 16) you can try resetting the bios with the EZ switch on the back, and if it doesnt work, with all power cable unplugged remove CMOS battery and short the CMOS reset switch leaving it so for a while (30 min).

If nothing changes after that a bios downgrade to a stable version can be worth a try.

PS:if you pls fill in your system spec in your profile

EDIT: as some one suggested you on another forum, knowing the CPU stepping will help understand XD

Thank you for your reply.

The only BIOS supporting my E0 stepping Q9550 on this IP35 Pro board is BIOS beta 18. I had already tried non-beta version 17 without the same result. Found Beta version 18 listing support for E0 and got exited. Loaded, and same result. I cleared CMOS with the switch and I also removed battery after loading 18 but only for 5 minutes not for 30 minutes. Is this truly necessary knowing BIOS did load properly by testing it with my E6750 anyway? I will try it but not sure it will make a difference.

Again, thanks for your reply and assistance. This is my first time posting on forums for support and I am pleasantly surprised with the quick responses!

I will update my profile now.

Quite strange, i've read about quite a lot Q9550 running on the IP35 pro... a suggestion is to "hard" reset the bios for the 30 min, or since it can be quite boring waiting that time, you can leave it resetting during the night...

So "Hard reset" means leaving the battery off for 30 minutes then? Should I flip the CMOS reset switch during that time as well?

You can flip the switch on the back or ,better, move the CMOS reset jumper (somewhere near the sata port) and as i written above no power cable plugged in the mobo.

Ok...
With my E6750 in place I flashed beta BIOS 18 again, did a "hard reset" by removing cmos battery, flipping the CMOS switch, and moving the CMOS jumper for 30 minutes with no power plugged into the PSU. After 30 minutes, put it all back, booted into BIOS, loaded optimized defaults, rebooted ok, then shut down and installed the Q9550.... got error 8.7 again. @#!#$*&!!!!

Now off to figure out how to RMA this board. Any clues there?

Looks like no more RMA's from ABIT... Moving on to another board... What a shame.

Anyone want to buy my IP35 Pro with beta BIOS 18? Works great with non-E0 stepping. I am on it now using an E6750.
I am moving on after unable to get through this error 8.7 when installing a Q9550 E0.

Make me an offer. This board never OC'd beyond defaults.

I already got 1 XD..

And the shipment can be a problem since most of us live in Europe.

I think you need more post to do anything in the "For Sale Forum"... Ask a moderator to see what to do...

You can open a new Topic if you need some advice on the new board though..

My advice is to sell the board together with the CPU, and you should warn the buyer of the problems.
