Default fan advice

hi guys
just installed all my new air cooling kit. but my ultra extreame doesn't seem much better than my old coolink cpu cooler. i'm using a Scythe S-FLEX 1600 fan should i use the speed controler that came with the coolink kit or power it directly off the motherboard.
thanks in advance
kris

With that fan it should be pretty darn good..... have you checked that the heatsink's seated properly? Some of the Ultra 120s have a curved base.... you could check that.... you may need to lap it a bit. Saying that, mine worked great out of the box....... gives me 47C load on an E6600 at 3.4GHz at 1.375v, whereas my AC Freezer 7Pro hit 69C, and Scythe Infinity only got it down to 63C......
