Futuristic fan replacements
A true "Ion-Wind" Silent Fan no mechanical parts
Founds this, thought you folks might find it interesting.
Combine this with the liquid metal and elecromagnet in the LM10 and this might be quite cool?

I heard of those a few months ago, it seems there are a few downsides to it, like a lot of noise if i remember correctly?
And the dangers of high voltages on exposed wires.

They dont mention that in this news item. Can you link the info you have on this. It might be interesting to follow if they make it safer and deal with the noise.

Definitely looks interesting, although if it catches on, it's going to leave a lot of 120mm holes in our cases

And i wonder what kind of voltages are we talking about?
Anybody here with any knowledge in that field feels like taking a wild guess?

It's all closely under wraps atm, quite rightly so too. It's the first really interesting bit of tech I've seen in ages.

I have my doubts that we'll be seeing this as a real challenger to fans for a good few years yet. I would imagine that cost wise they wont be able to compete with conventional fans and I dont see them being very efficient.
I recall a pair of speakers from many years ago which used the same principle. Now each of these was the size of a large wardrobe and had its own mains connection for the EHT's to generate enough potential to ionise the air and then to move it. Oh and at nearly £40000 for a pair it put electrostatic field speakers out of most peoples price range!
Apparently they sounded good though!!!
