Default CPU Coolers

I'm in a daze with this one. Would like one of these:

Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme

but for kicks and giggles, one of these just because it looks so damn hawt!

Same again, just black

But feel I may not have the room in my case (Cosmos S) unless I remove the Side Intake fan (Don't really want to go down this path) but wonder if rotating the fan 90 degrees would solve this issue due to slices cut off on 2 sides. Pic below so you know what I mean. The fan protrudes about 15mm which is hard to tell from that pic. I've read that 120 will fit wothout fan which is why the rotation of it instead.

Due to the DFI LT x48 t2r NB heatsink means the 120 would have to be installed horizontally, possibly allowing room when side intake case fan is rotated that 90 degrees but unsure.

Maybe a smaller heatsink like this one?

Thermalright Ultima 90I Heatsink

Then the fan for both NB (Standard DFI one atm) and new CPU heatsink or could one 120mm fan cool both considering CPU heatsink will be installed horizontal sucking or blowing air upwards. Not sure what the best configuration is there?

To give you guys an idea on my type of usage and expectations, it will be 24/7 use, gaming, video editing and the like but would like a modest overclock without pushing the boundaries. Is 3.4ghz on a Q9550 aiming too high for this CPU for daily use and would the 90I be sufficient cooling instead?

Ideas, thoughts?

The 90 is a great heatsink, a few people on here have them and recommend them.

3.4GHz should be doable with your quad.

The other thing you can do is use a different NB heatsink, something like the Xigmatek Porter or Thermalright HR-05 SLI will give you the room you need, although the Thermalright will probably block the top PCI-E slot.

Well, I had been pulling my hair out all evening trying to find out a solution and it looks like the True 120 will fit without hesitation, using the DFI x48 T2R and Cosmos S. I would never had thought a heatsink could cause so much initial grief but satisfied with the end result. Might still rotate that side fan 90degrees for a little more clearance though. Was within minutes of downsizing to the 90 based on it being a very good performer like you said (cheers once again mate) until I found this link.

Will pick up hopefully tommorrow and take a few pics of how it went during the course of the week.
