Default Update:

I hvnt been able clock the beyond 725 stable with this mod, which was annoying, i think its down to the rear of the card not getting eneough airflow over the sinks.

So to find out if that is the case i have moved the 120mm to the right a bit and added an 80mm blowing directly over the back end.

Looks like this now, but i have trimmed the tie binds to make it a little more neat looking:

Hopefully this makes the difference i need.

I am not able to overclock 4850 beyond 750mhz.
I know its not the RAM, it seems happy at 1150 now, but i have been testing the RAM as low as 750 to rule it out.
I was wondering given that i have added the extra fan, used the OCZ freeze and even ripped off the little black plastic thing over the gpu block so that it gets some direct airflow too, what else can i try?

As ever folks, suggestions and advice welcomed.

Maybe you should vmod it, in the end most 4850 chips are the "bad clockers" the chips that can't get to 4870 speeds reliably, so you should be happy with having reached that speed already.
I'd look to clock the ram as high as possible though, the main differene between the two cards is in memory speed.

Yep, makes sense. The difference in 3dmark with the RAM notched up is considerable. Thanks Kel.

Im getting on OK,
My old rig was a dual Xeon setup on the Asus PC-DL, which i loved dearly, its still sitting here. I need to have a think about what to do with it.
Cant seem to hit 4050 with low volts on this new one though looks like ill need 1.45ish to get there.
i read up on my batch number and they arent the best of the bunch, luck of the draw it seems.
im not too bothered 3825mhz at 1.38v is stable and i can live with that i think. unless someone tells me its safe it run it 24/7 at 1.47v.

The VGA card seems to be an OK clocker too, not amazing but tbh i just enjoyed playing with it more than anything else. it seems stable at 740/1175 no volt mods done, but Kelainefes has almost convinced me that the way to go.

Other than that i am happy eneough so far, thanks for asking.

As long as you get 60 fps stable ( not going under 53-55 in any occasion) you will be fine.
I doubt you will see any fps drop until you go below 3.2 GHZ, at least not in online play.
