    Water cooled NZXT

Anyone following my thread here: Water cooling problems Will pretty much know whats going on, but basically I'll be putting a water cooling system in an NZXT M59, or well, outside it, because rads don't fit inside

Have most of the bits now, just waiting for my overpriced (shop around before you buy ) CPU block, first hurdle of the more aesthetic type and the reason for switching to here is the reservoir, the EK won't fit anywhere inside the case, the swiftech is easier but I prefer the looks of the EK, only problem will be running the tubing for it, which could be difficult as theres only 2 entry spots in the top of the case, or possibly PCI slots, but I don;t think 3/4" OD tube fits through them. Also not sure about it outside the case?

    so; EK here:

    or mini res, here:

Just had an idea, to make the tubing a little easier I could move the rad back a bit and just let it stand supported by the tube, that means the bends I need aren't as tight and should improve the airflow too. Not ideal as my case will sit very far forwards, but it could work

Regarding the pump noise issue, you could try to hang it by the tubing or use some sort of elastic suspension.
If you must put it down, a neoprene pad will reduce the vibration noise a bit.

I see... Well. At this point I should inform you that I intend to form my own team, and destroy the molecular bonds that bind your very matter together and reduce the resulting particulate chaos to tears.
...If he doesn't win this decision I'm gonna burn my headset and run naked through the crowd.

I was going to use something like: http://hobbiesrus.com.au/images/as6727.jpg it's used in remote control car racing and is basically a self adhesive foam tape, solves the problem of mounting it and noise in one, may have to rethink if it doesn't stick or something but that's the idea for now. Pump seems to sit quite nicely with the tubing I have on it atm so should be ok, it shouldn't need to do toooo much sticking

Mocked up the tubing like this for now, the big long tube that loops through the side will go through the back and into the pump inlet, then to cpu block, then into radiator, then back to res. I know it's not ideal temp wise but it's the only way i can see really of getting reservoir feeding into pump, which will make filling far far easier and with the 18w pump the temp difference is going to be tiny I think. It looks a little messy atm too but I'm hoping that it will tidy up eventually. It's not ideally what I was after, but I actually quite like the look of the reservoir outside the case now, and keeping it inside was just not that practical.

edit: that long tube is so ridiculously long because it's better long than short btw, it will sit a lot closer to the case/other tube when i'm done.

Don't use that tape to attach the pump to the case, if anything it will increase the strength of the vibration noise, what you are looking for is something soft and ideally heavy, as I said neoprene will do but in that RC shop I see they have sheets of foam rubber, I think it may be better than neoprene as it says its purpose is to absorb vibrations.
If you really need to keep the pump in place try using some blu-tak.

Heard back from the company delivering the CPU block and it won't be here today... so i set a loop up with the above without a cpu block and I'll run it for a bit off of a spare molex-fan adapter I have in my case, seems to be running fine atm with no leaks, even though one of the joins wasn't nipped up! The basic range of barbs from thewatercoolingshop is great Pump has quietened right down now theres some proper liquid in it (I used the coolant i messed up and made pink ) Surprised me how warm it gets and I understand why people question the heat dump on the 18w pumps now!

All looking generally pretty good atm though, hopefully my CPU block comes when I'm not out tomorrow and I can get it running properly, with some less pink fluid in it

Posted that while I was typing

The purpose of that tape is to absorb vibration too, it does look a little thin in that pic actually but it's 1-2mm thick adhesive foam, I was going to double it up as it's normally to reduce the higher frequency vibrations. Reason I was looking at that was basically the koolance pmp 400's don't have any mounting tabs or anything but they do have a nice flat bottom for an adhesive solution to work with. It doesn't seem to be vibrating enough to warrant 6mm of foam to me, but you think the servo tape really wouldn't be ideal?

The link was just an example pulled from google btw, that shop is in australia I think

1 or 2 mm won't be of much use, maybe using 3 or 4 layers may help. Try blu-tak, it's dirt cheap and you can always use it for something else.
Also remember, the bigger the area of contact the more the vibrations will be passed from th epump to the case, so ideally use something like four pieces of blu-tack in the corners.

Still waiting on CPU block which it appears has been lost to the royal mail monster Ordered one this evening so hopefully saturday I'll get that through. Has given me plenty of time to leak test the barbs though and I'm quite happy to run them without clamps tbh, some have been under pressure due to the way the reservoir sits or having the tubing outside the case and it hasn't been a problem at all, the seal on them is very very good.
