Which are the HK's?? I had a question for you.... ah, yeah, are you re-using your fluid? when you empty your loop are adding new to it and then re-using? what fluid are you using?

HK=HeatKillers.
Yes, I keep a couple of fresh bottles handy which i will use first to top up with what came out of the previous loops. Then whatever is left over of the old stuff will go back into bottles for emergencies.
For future builds however i will be using smaller fittings with distilled water and silver.
@Kel, sry missed you post about the backplates, i am thinking i might try using metal strips with thermal pads on them, mounted on the underside with only the bolts being visable from the top.

Here is a little shot of my temporary solution.
It works fine with out it but the temps are around the same as the stock cooler then, which means they need to come off and get a firmer mount on the VRM end.

I'm a dumbass... that was pretty obvious huh...
I asked about recycling the coolant because I paid for my CPU to be lapped when I went to water but was in such a hurry to do it I never sent it.
I wanna pick up some Scythe fans and send my CPU off to ChilledPC for a good lapping.. but that will mean draining my loop to remove the motherboard to get out the CPU.. LOL.. I'm somewhat tight at the moment so was wondering about re-using the same coolant. I have about 2/3's or a litre of fresh stuff to top up with.. Any negatives to doing this?
Your distilled water and silver idea sounds great!!!! is that all you'd need? I've seen the silver coils here.
In fact moving to that method would be cheaper then buying more Fesser coolant. I'd need Blue UV die mind cos I'm a girlie.

Excuse me for the thread hijack, but is there something wrong to just remove the blocks and not taking the loop apart? I mean, if it is possible, I realize some loops may be too tight to allow for this.

Yes Joe,
I think as Kel says you should be able to unscrew most blocks to lift out the CPU without breaking the loop, unless your blocks use a different mounting bracket.
Also would you not try lapping the CPU yourself? The paper is cheap enough and so long as you have some glass, water and patience you should be fine.
Edit: ah ok just looked through your build log. Can you cut a hole in the mother board tray to allow dis-mounts/re-mounts?

as ^^^^ K said ?
Normally only time I have to open loop is changing top-plate switching between amd & 1366 cooling, usually I just drain & add back, with a n extra splash of thread if i'm adding a ciomponent to the loop ie nb block or summat.

Sorry that changed the thread focus momentarily,
AF, I could maybe remove a section of the case on the rear side to allow access to the CPU/ PWM/ NB blocks. As they are are quiet the close fit. Without said hole I'm unsure if it would allow enough room to get the CPU out.. I'd have to remove the Mobo to remove the NB and PWM blocks (Clunk warned me of this when I bought them) but the Fuzion v2 should come off without a problem.
ChilledPC are lapping it as I've already paid for the service, Tom at Chilled has said if I sent the CPU on the Tuesday he'd have it back in the mail the next day.. so it'll take me a couple days to drain and dis-assemble to change out the fans..
Back to yours pal,
as for a backing plate, could you use the backing plate from the stock heatsink and fan?.. maybe dremal off the VRM portion and use its screws?

Not a bad idea that, ill check if its possible.
I was thinking of using some old PCI blanking plates i have with pads on them.
I emailed XSPC to ask what their suggestion would be, they told me to just make some brackets as the cards must be bent.

An other alternative could be to dremel off the vrm seetion of the XSPC block , and use these ? - or use the graphics support bracket thingy out of your LianLi to support and straighten them ?

Honestly, it's like putting Teletubbies in charge of a thermonuclear reactor. It would be funny if it weren't so frightening.
