Unfortunatly (and there is always a catch isn't there) one of the components - my motherboard - from Scan.co.uk: Computer Hardware - All was delivered late, to the wrong address - but that i was blaming on s***yLink. However, i may have been to harsh to judge the delivary company when i took the board out to get my first glimpse at how awesome it was!

The first thing i noticed was that the box was fairly battered on the front. Especially for a £200 board. I'm willing to let that go though, afterall you dont plug the box in. However, when i opened the box and took a look at the flame freezer it had thermal paste on it where it had been previously attached. The bracket also had thermal paste on it. So that had obviously been plugged in. I opened the accessories box to take a look after that to find that the cables (although they were cool and green UV)were not in packets. Infact the packets had all been ripped open and put in the box. along with the cables. I took a look at the instruction manual to find that it too was covered in spots of thermal paste and corners of the pages had been folded over as if somebody had been reading it.
In all, when i expected to find a brand spanking new board, i found somebody elses reject. I double checked the advertisement on scan's website and it was sold as a new board. I am pretty reluctant to plug in the other £700 worth of components to a board that might have been tampered with so I have emailed scan. Unfortunatly, it being the weekend I am unlikly to hear back till monday and that delays the build entirely!

Now we come to my biggest gripe with Scan.... re-selling second hand/returned goods. Whilst I appreciate that this is necessary to a certain degree as people return things under distance-selling regulations, etc, some of the stuff is simply not fit for resale. I started to lose count of the number of things that were wrong..... I think it may be because I live so close they think 'give the locals the crap stuff because if they don't want it they can just bring it back, and some of them might keep it'. Examples include a dodgy PSU with no power cable and that sounded and smelt on the verge of exploding, RAM with greasy fingerprints on the chips that was scrambled on arrival and corrupted the windows install, no less than 3 dead/dying HDDs out of 5, 2 DOA monitors, 2 DOA mobos, and so on, and so forth.

Then came the piece-de-resistance..... a graphics card that had clearly been RMA'd..... the box was ripped in two places, was covered in dirt, there was gluey residue where labels had been removed and it had congealed and gone black, inside the box the driver disk and mini-manual were battered and crumpled, and the card was dead. As you can imagine I was a little annoyed shall we say, but staying calm I first called them and then went down to get it changed. I had paid the £7 delivery, but when I asked I was told that I couldn't have a refund as there was no-one there to authorise it (!!!!!!), plus I am spending time and money taking it back, but okay I thought, give them a chance. And it was the usual crap, no apology, no explanation, no refunded postage charge, and 166 of the GFX card in stock, yet they'd still sent me a bolloxed one.
I really don't like Scan.

Horrible service there by Scan... hope you get a new, untampered board ASAP.

I can see why... You would have thought that somebody would have closed this loop to stop people from dispatching clearly mistreated or pre-used items. Oh well, at least the customer service people have their heads screwed on. Kinda makes me wish i had bought the board from CCL as it was about 0.04p difference if i went to pick it up and i would have had it working by now... ugh... But there you go... Its a learning curve

I'm looking forward to some OCing results on this board with the 1600MHz RAM mate. Mine has hit a wall @ 3.99GHz (probably something to do with my 1333MHz stuff) but I had instability in 3D Mark so I pulled it back to 3.8Gig.

Unlucky about the board. I'm loving mine (after the initial no post) it is running a treat now. Far Cry 2 is quite good, a bit TOO open, great with everything on Ultra and 8xAA tho. You'll have fun.

I really find it shocking that a company would do that sort of thing in this day and age . Makes you wonder what happens to the majority of RMA'ed stuff i.e. stuff that does not go back to the manufacturers. Seen some companies selling 'B' stock and alway assumed that this was RMA's found or tested ok. (lots of kit can have faults but by the time that you discover the problem then send the kit back and it having been 'bounced' about in transit the problem may not show up when put on the vendors workbench. Never noticed Scan selling any 'b' grade stuff though but i'm still surprised that they would do this sort of thing. Bad crack eh!.

Hoo-freeking-Ray! My motherboard has been replaced and a spanking new version arrived to the house up the road (DAMN YOU S****YLINK!) yesterday.

Build is scheduled for friday. Expect Pics followed by more pics followed by lots of questions about how far you can push stock cooling components... hehehe
