Comparing 8800 GS(G92-150) and 8800 GT(G92-270),they not only have differences in memory size and interface, but also in SP and ROP. Some rumors said the chip is bad quality G92-270, NVIDIA screened the malfunctioning part and it becomes G92-150. G92-150 is only for OEM market, but because of AMD’s HD 3850 done quite well in the market, give lots of pressure in the mainstream market segment, so G92-150 becomes 8800GS and launched before everyone can expected.
Because it is for mainstream market, so lot’s of features are omitted to save the manufacturing cost. we can notice this from the core, the memory and the
PCB.
Comparison between 8800GT reference PCB and Palit 8800GS Reference 8800GT’s
PCB is 10 layers model P939, but Palit version 8800GS 768MB’s
PCB is PM8292, 8 layers. Palit 8800GS 384MB’s
PCB is PM8092, 6 layers. The power module of 8800GS 384MB is more hotter than reference 8800GT, and even have some high frequency sounds when running 3D applications.
