I'm using virtually exclusively the D strap (400).
The B starp doesn't like to mucjh NB voltage.
I'm using dividers 3.33D & 4.0D depending on FSB. I've been tending to run FSB >500 to get the better Write speeds from a higher FSB.

Is it tRD(performance in memsaet) that's screwing you ??
If I'm going for a new clock I usually leave it on Auto with Performance Enhance on Turbo. THen check in memset what's ben selected & if it can be lowered.
I'm running +0.35v just about permanently on vdiimm up to around 1870.

What Bios & slots are you using ??
On the early bios the pink seemed best, but running on later bios it seem it doesn't matter.

Secondary timings etc,. are shoen in the bios settings in the Benches & settings link I gave above.

i use 3,33D or 4D

+0,25 -- +0,4v NB max

the thing strange is that with one stick doesn change, usually on single channel is better because chipset is less stressed.

The Nb undervokts by about 0.20v so my Nb voltage tends to be in the +0.375~0.500v
As you can see in bios settings shown here E8400 4,336 8x542@3.33D 1,807 8,7,6,14

look forward tio seeing that 615 560 ish is about as high as I got

luck

Question lock ups...

I have the X48T-DQ6 paired with a Q9300 Core 2 Quad 2.5.

This thing locks up all the time, espeically under any kind of load, but randomly as well. This even occurred when I was installing XP. In the BIOS it shows the CPU being run at 2.00GHz instead of 2.5. Intel support said that was because of the EIST setting, which I disabled in the BIOS (along with the C1E, and the MB2 or whatever the other one is)...

Once, upon POST the BIOS showed the CPU running at 2.4, but that was only once.

Inside Windows XP Pro SP2, various utilties show it reporting as 2.5, but running at 2.0 (and I'm not running any of the power saver utilities from Gigabyte.

Speedfan shows it's getting 0 on the +12V rail, and the -12 rail was way off (almost -14). Talking with the power supply manufacturer (PC Power & Cooling 650W), they said that if there was a problem with the unit or if the unit detected a dangerous situation with the MB, the red light on the back would light up, which it isn't.

So I don't know if this is a MB, a CPU, a PS, or a RAM issue (though memtest86+ doesn't find any errors with the 4GB of DDR3 12800 Crucial - though memtest86+ DOES show the settings as 533MHz (DDR1066).

One last thing: when the MB shipped to me, there was no option in the BIOS to disabled the EIST, which was fixed when I updated to F5c which I found a link to on here.

Do you guys have an words of wisdom? I'm stuck.

Hi fl4ian,
Welcome to the forum

Just ensuire in bios (Advanced Bios Features) That CPU Milti Threading to Virtualization Technology are all disabled.

Some XP utilities show speed wrongly , as they can't handle half multipliers

You occasionally get glitches with the PSU Voltages in speedfan or motherboard monitor. I use Everest & it varies with version whether i see 12v

thanks for the quick response, supershanks.

when i got intel tech support on the phone, they had me download their utility to show both what the CPU is identified as, and also what the CPU is currently running at. It showed the same discrepancy as CPU-Z, hotcpu, sisoftsandra, and others.

I appreciate the note about the voltage glitches. I have since replaced the power supply, and still have the issues, so I have effectively ruled out a problem with the power supply.

I honestly think that there's a bonafide problem with this motherboard...

I have another 775 processor and motherboard (an E4500, and an evga motherboard), but they run at 800MHz FSB. Could I place the E4500 in the X48T-DQ6? or could i place the Q9300 in the evga motherboard? that way I might be able to rule out an additional component.

at this point I think I'm leaning towards the motherboard being the culprit because memtest86+ is showing the wrong speed RAM, which would make sense if the board's FSB was impaired, and WOULDN'T make sense if it was only the processor (check my logic, though).

Also, because of the frequent system hangs and hard power-offs, XP is now corrupted and won't boot into the OS. I suppose if indeed it were the motherboard, it could be a problem with the southbridge or on-board RAID controller as well...

Your thoughts? Am I crazy? Should i return both of them? And if so, should i get the same thing again?? I think I am crazy.

yes of course you can swap cpu over

what settings are you rumnning at the minute in terms of FSB & memory speed What Sysem memory multiplier are you using ??

If you have adjusted some settings it sounds like you have some instability.

can you do 2 things please ?/
1) Add your System Specs
2) Copy the Bios Template into a post & fill in your current settings , including the CPU settings.

it'll help us help you
thanks

Hi Supershanks.

I've added my specs to my profile as requested .

I am actually running everything completely stock - hadn't had the chance to OC or adjust anything; the thing wasn't stable operating "as is" out of the box...

I decided against swapping the CPU as I didn't want to risk damaging the proc, and have sent both the CPU and the MB back to the retailer for exchanges. I've been fighting with this thing most of the last 3 days. I believe that it is likely a bad board, but I will have to wait to update you on the next installment when i get the replacements.

You've been very helpful, and I appreciate your quick responses. If the replacement parts produce a similar instability, we'll have to dig much deeper. And by then, hopefully I will have heard from Gigabyte's support ..

thanks again, supershanks.

YES!...get rid of bios F5C...it has major problems with all the cpu's, memory and saving your bios settings...use F5A!..that is the best IMHO
